NAZATOON Mohamed, 66, of Pigeon Island has died from injuries she suffered in an accident last Thursday, July 19, at Chateau Margot, also on East Coast Demerara. Police investigating the circumstances said the mishap occurred about 11:30 hrs when the woman was a pedestrian on Chateau Margot Public Road.
Investigations revealed that she had disembarked a minibus and, while she was in the process of crossing the road, the driver of the vehicle made a U-turn and hit her.
Mohamed was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The man who was driving has been arrested and is in police custody.
This year, so far, the Police Traffic Department has recorded 42 road accidents with 44 deaths, including two of children while, for the corresponding period last year, there were 62 accidents that resulted in 68 deaths, among them six children.
