GWI responds to statements by Kaieteur News

THE Guyana Water Incorporated ( GWI) the nation’s supplier of water and sanitation services, wishes to respond to a report in the Kaieteur News, dated 2012-07-19 (Page 3, paragraph 5) which stated “…the utility companies turned off water and electricity to Wismar and Linden.” Guyana Water Incorporated wishes to state that operations in Linden were progressing according to the normal schedule of delivery and no operation was halted by the company.  However, due to the loss of power supply at the water production sites serving Wismar , normal service was interrupted.  Hence, the statement printed in the Kaieteur News referring to the delivery of water is erroneous.
According to GWI’s Executive Director of Operations, Joseph Codette , “all operations in Linden were being executed according to our regular schedule until the power supply was interrupted at our facilities serving customers in Wismar ; I wish to make it clear that no attempt was made by the water utility to terminate water supply to any area of Linden .”
The Director further stated that no attempt was made by the publication to contact GWI to clarify or correct any of the statements published.  “These statements were published without any comment from GWI; no contact was made by Kaieteur News with our Linden team or our Public Relations Department.”
The Director reassured that normal service delivery will continue in Linden and that GWI will partner with the Guyana Power and Light Company (GPL) to correct any obstacles in the interest of maintaining quality service to all customers.

To report service disruptions, customers can call GWI’s Customer Services Call Centre on 227-8701; e-mail customercallcentre@gwi.gy or post via social media at www.facebook.com/everydropcountsgy
