A MAN was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment yesterday for breaking into a doctor’s office and stealing pharmaceuticals, among other things. David Singh (no address given) was convicted by Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after pleading guilty to one offence, particulars of which said, on July 17, at Lot 215 Camp Street, Georgetown, he broke and entered the office of Dr. Janice Imhoff and stole 12 bed sheets, valued $8,000 and pharmaceutical supplies worth $300,000, belonging to her.
Singh also faced another charge, which said, between July 13 and 14, he broke and entered the same place and stole one fan and two clocks among other items with a total value of $380,000, also her property, but he pleaded not guilty to that.
Assistant Superintendent, Denise Griffith-Jacobis, prosecuting, said between July 13 and 14, police received a report that someone broke into the doctor’s office. No one was apprehended and the burglary was being investigated.
The prosecutor said, on July 17, police got another call and, when they responded, they found the defendant inside the building with the bed sheet and other booty.
The defendant told the court he was up in a tree when he saw the window of the building broken and decided to go inside and help himself.
Singh has to be back in court, on August 10, for trial in relation to the charge to which he pleaded not guilty.
