CHS impress in Barbados

DESPITE their inability to cop the crown, Guyana’s Central High School (CHS) have been impressive in the 26th annual Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools cricket tournament that is currently being contested in Barbados, having defeated Queen’s College of Barbados in their latest match. Apart from that victory, the Guyanese managed to get five of their players, Nichosie Barker Denzil Allen, Kareem Naughton, H. David and A. Garfield selected to compete in the Festival match that is always played at the end of the tournament.
In their latest match against Queen’s College, CHS, who did not get to compete in their sixth-round matchup, due to the venue being unprepared, batted first and scored 202-7 from their 32 overs, with Barker top-scoring with 61, while Naughton and Allen offered support with 58 and 22 respectively.
Dikembe Wilson 4-19 and Shamair Williams 2-43 were the principal wickettakers for Queen’s College, who were limited to 193 for 8 from their 32 overs in reply.
Yvan Grant (43), Craigg Holder (27), Nathan Gibson (23), Chad Monerville (18), Kwame Lewis 14 and Odaine Morris 13 were their leading batsmen against the bowling of Barker who took 3 for 41, Bilaal Abdul-Jabar, 2-12, and Garfield Deroche who took 2-17 in support.
Barbados’ Foundation Secondary School ensured the Guyanese schools competing in the tournament did not enjoy a fruitful day, when they defeated New Amsterdam by five wickets.
Asked to bat first, New Amsterdam were bowled out for 125 off 33.1 overs, with Leon Andrews 45, Hakeem Hinds 24 and David Latchya 11 being the leading batsmen.
Amal Nathaniel 3-14, Aaron Jones 3-35 and Stefan Jordan 2-32 did the damage with the ball for Foundation, who scored 126 for 5 from 31.1 overs in reply, with Shamari Davis 32, Jofra Archer 29 not out and Lee Gaskin 13 leading them to victory while Latchya took 2-28 for New Amsterdam.
