THE finals of the North Rupununi Football Association concluded on July 15 at the Surama ground, Region 9 with the Surama Men’s team and the Rupertee Women’s team proving victorious. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, Nigel Dharamlall and Principal Regional Development Officer, Anil Roberts were on hand to witness the conclusion of the tournament and the victory of Surama over Masara 3-2 ( men’s final)
and Rupertee over Masara in the women’s final 1- 0.
The Annai team placed third, winning against Bina Hill in the women’s play off.
Dharamlall assisted in the handing over of the trophies and medals to the winners, provided by the ministry, as it seeks to promote sport in hinterland communities.
The hinterland tournament is played annually.
