Empretec conducts another open forum on business efficiency

EMPRETEC Guyana, with a mandate to gear business professionals to be more efficient by saving money, cutting costs and increasing profitability, is collaborating with the International Trade Centre (ITC) to impact positively on enhancing national competitiveness among companies locally. Towards that objective, the company recently conducted its third open forum on the ITC Modular Learning System in Supply Chain Management (ISO 9001:2008) for business professionals pursuing its Diploma Programme.
It was held last week Monday at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street, under the theme ’Introduction to Supply Chain Management: A Practical Approach to Enhancing Company Efficiency and Profitability. The forum brought together 30 keenly enthusiastic participants from a representative cross-section of Corporate Guyana.
Among those represented were Banks DIH, COURTS Guyana Inc; John Fernandes; Camex Restaurant; Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC); Edward B. Beharry; CGX; Guyana Water Inc (GWI) and other procurement entities.
In an overview of the programme, Managing Director, Ms. Judy Semple-Joseph recalled that EMPRETEC started the course in 2010, when ITC officials came and executed training for trainers’ workshop for the facilitators.
Having gotten off to a spirited and rather successful start, in 2011 EMPRETEC introduced the course to companies whose staff participated.
The course is now offered at three levels, Basic Certificate Programme, Diploma Level and the Advanced Certificate, with participation in the first being mandatory, before moving on to the others.
Semple-Joseph said her entity has also customised the content into specific workshops that deal with procurement issues, inventory management, customer relationship management, basic purchasing, strategic procurement and practical material tourist management.
