Sparta Primary’s two young luminaries plan to study medicine

THE SPARTA Primary School on the Essequibo Coast has secured second and third spots in Region 2 in the National Grade Six Assessment examinations (NGSA). The school’s Headmaster, Mr Deodat Narine, deemed the overall performance of the school at the examination very good. He said the two top students were always consistent in their work, and he had expected them to do well. The headmaster said the school is doing good each year at the NGSA examination, and he is happy that Sparta Primary is among the top schools in the country.
The two students, Osbert McAndrew and Shaveshwar Deonarine, said they are very excited and happy to be among the top 10 students of
Region 2. Shaveshwar, who is 12 years old, got 534 marks. He said he had expected to do well.  Awarded a place at Queen’s College, Shaveshwar said he would not take it up, but would instead attend the Anna Regina Multilateral School (ARMS), because he would be near his parents and would feel more comfortable.
The student said his father, Pameshwar Deonarine, was his class teacher while he was in Grade Six, and that gave him confidence to do well. He said his father would continue to assist him while he studies at ARMS.
11-year-old Osbert McAndrew, of Danielstown, said he is excited and happy with his performance; and is thanking God, his parents and teachers for his success. This student has been awarded a place at Queen’s College in Georgetown, which he would be taking up.
Both top students are aiming to become doctors, and have pledged to continue their studies to achieve their goals.
Osbert and Shaveshwar said they both studied hard and attended extra lessons at Sparta in the afternoons.
Their advice to students is: study hard and always be positive.
The top 10 students of Region 2 are Kimberly Prashad (Taymouth Manor), Shaveshwar Deonarine (Sparta) Osbert Mc Andrew (Sparta), Bhovana Persaud (Aurora), Ashana Bissoonlall, Anurada Mohan (Taymouth Manor) Rena Seepersaud (Fisher Primary), Navita Ramon (Taymouth Manor), Nicholas Headley (CV Nunes) and Renicca Persaud (Suddie Primary).
