GT&T’s CEO Yog Mahadeo denies resignation claims

– ignorant of fact that former CEO returning to head company
CHIEF Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) company, Yoganand Persaud yesterday denied claims that he has tendered his resignation.
Contacted yesterday, the Chief Executive Officer said that he does not know where the information on such a development is coming from, but as far as he is aware he is ignorant of that development.
In an apparent reference to the ongoing audit at the company, Mr. Mahadeo told this newspaper that as the head of the company like in several other companies, the head will take the flanking for whatever goes wrong but will deal internally with those who are culpable.
At the moment GT&T is going through an audit. Last week the CEO explained that the audit is not necessarily restricted to the book-keepings of the company but all other aspects of the company’s operations. He said that is necessary if the company is to know where it falls short and which areas it needs to improve on.
Meanwhile, this newspaper was informed by a source within, that the company’s former CEO Ms. Sonita Jagan was returning to the company and will be taking over its operations as the head of the company. It was also informed that as recent as last week the business executive was in the headquarters and was not pleased with several things that have been happening at the company.
The source pointed out that a photocopying machine which the former CEO was attempting to use was not working. According to the source it was at that point that Ms. Jagan allegedly made the remark “don’t worry when I come back here all these things I am going to fix”.
Yesterday, Mr. Mahadeo also denied any knowledge of this development. He said that he was unaware that the former CEO was heading back to the company to head its operations.
Over the years GT&T has been giving back very subtly to the Guyanese people as part of its cooperate social responsibility. That trend was evident very much under the leadership of the immediate past CEO retired Major General Joseph Singh. During that time, Yog Mahadeo was the finance controller of the company.
However, since Mr. Mahadeo took over as CEO, GT&T’s activities in respect to its corporate social responsibility have been pushed into overdrive with several promotions where the customers of the company were able to be rewarded in big ways.
Among the many tangible things that GT&T has handed customers through promotions and sponsorships are: automobile, house, cell phones, recording contracts, millions in cash and other benefits rewarded to them by the company for various reasons and under certain promotions.
