Cabinet approves $327.81M contract for Mocha/Arcadia road

CABINET has granted its no-objection to the award of a $$327.81M contract for the construction of the main access road at Mocha/Arcadia, East Bank Demerara. Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS) and Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon made the announcement at his post-Cabinet media briefing on Wednesday at Office of the President, Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, Georgetown.
He said the project will be undertaken through the Ministry of Housing and Water Central Housing and Planning Authority, and the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) had opened nine bids.
Residents have made known their displeasure with the condition of the route and even protested its deplorable state. On one occasion, some irate residents had cordoned off a section to prevent over laden trucks from traversing it.
The protesters believed that the trucks delivering building materials were responsible for the further deterioration and they told Public Works Minister Robeson Benn when he visited.
