POLICE have released on bail one of the two suspects in the hijacking of the motor car driven by Rattan Latchman, called Naresha, at Non Pareil, ECD on June 20.
But the other man suspected of being involved is still being hunted, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said yesterday. Meanwhile, Rattan said he has not yet repaired his damaged vehicle; and as a result, he is not working presently.
His June 20 ordeal began at 13:30 hrs at Coldingen Turn, ECD, where taxi drivers solicit passengers. Two men requested to be taken to Dazzell Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, via the Railway Embankment.
However, along the way, a cord was tightly wrapped around his neck, making him barely able to breathe.
Rattan said the men warned him not to resist, and he complied, as they told him they did not want to harm him, but wanted his Toyota Premio, HB 9523; and he should cooperate because the bandit seated in the back had a gun and would use it.
Eventually, Rattan was forced out of his car, which the hijackers fled with, taking his cellular phone and the day’s earnings of about $5,000.
Rattan subsequently told the Guyana Chronicle that not resisting his assailants saved his life.
The car was later retrieved after an accident in the vicinity of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
