— to provide services beyond regular 8-to-4:30 hours
CABINET has approved a recommendation from Health Minister Dr Bheri Ramsaran to compensate health sector workers providing shift systems at identified institutions at levels 3 and 4 in the sector. This means regional and district hospitals.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon, so disclosed yesterday at his weekly post-Cabinet press conference, at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive in Georgetown.
“That decision would allow those regional and district facilities (West Dem at level 4, Leguan and Wakenaam at level 3) to offer services beyond the regular 4:30 end-of-the-day operations, services that would now extend to the duration of the second shift, probably ending 8 to 10 hours later,” Dr Luncheon remarked.
“Cabinet, in essence, in offering to compensate health workers, has indeed opened the door for extended hours of service in these institutions,” he said.
Cabinet has also approved the recommendation from Dr Ramsaran to pursue the recruitment of medical specialists from overseas.
