Guyana participates in first tripartite tourism conference

GUYANA is participating in the first ever tripartite meeting with Venezuela and Brazil on the development of tourism among the three countries. President of THAG, Mr. Paul Stephenson, Director of THAG, Colin Edwards and Mr. Magno Silva of Roraima Adventures have been credited with making the first Tourism Meeting of the three nations possible.
The meeting is being held today in Boa Vista, Brazil and the Guyanese delegation is being led by  the acting Minister, Minister of Tourism and Commerce, Industry, Irfaan Ali .
Other members include  senior members of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), representatives of the  Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and  staff of the Ministry of Tourism and the Guyana.
Forty participants comprising public and private sector interests in the tourism, local aviation and business sector of Guyana are also part of the delegation..
The meeting is being hosted by the Boa Vista, Roraima Convention &Visitors Bureau and will be attended by the Governor of the State of Roraima, Mr. Jose Anchieta Junio
Venezuela will be represented by members of the Bolivar Tourism Association comprising tour operators and accommodation service providers.
One of the objectives is to develop and market tourist destinations along the South American Coast.
Security, customs, passport and visas, border transit vehicles to transport tourists, tourism activities in indigenous communities are among the topics to be discussed.
The meeting will seek ways to promote the tourism products of the region, encourage increased length of stay and average spending of tourists in regional markets, expand the product offering for operators involved in the three countries and promote the region as a destination for foreign markets
THAG’s membership expects to benefit from an understanding of the logistical and regulatory framework within the varying destinations as well as to develop meaningful partnerships and packages.
The one-day meeting  will conclude with a Business Roundtable of  tourism operators in Brazil, Guyana and Venezuela and the  development of a work programme that will seek to accomplish objectives identified for the period up to the anticipated  second tourism conference of the three nations, the date of which will be identified before this first one ends.
