Man fined for assaulting mother of his children
JOEL Abrams (no address given) was fined $15,000 with the alternative of 10 days imprisonment yesterday, for assaulting the mother of his children. In another domestic violence case, he pleaded guilty, before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, to having unlawfully assaulted Petula Thomas, on June 23.

Abrams said he tried to remonstrate with the virtual complainant about what she is encouraging but she cursed him and pointed her fingers in his face, causing him to slap her.
The man, shedding tears, said he knows that what he did is not the right thing and begged the court to have mercy on him.
The magistrate advised Abrams that he should have reported the matter to the relevant authorities rather than take things into his own hands.
However, the magistrate instructed a probation officer, who was on duty in court, to investigate the circumstances involving the girl.
