Woman still on life support
-parents to meet with doctor on way forward
-assailant still on the run,
AFTER a computerized tomography (CT scan) had been done on 37-year-old Abiola Eadie of 50 Middle Street, Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara, the woman’s parents will shortly be meeting with the doctor to be appraised on their daughter’s condition, be updated on her survival chances, and the possibility of surgery, if necessary. Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle, Eadie’s mother said she thinks her daughter’s condition remains unchanged. One week ago last Wednesday, Abiola and her son, Martin, were shot by a neighbour in an argument the man and Martin were having over a game cock.
Upon hearing the argument, Abiola reportedly ventured outside to enquire what was going on, and as the argument continued, she received two bullets.
While her son has been discharged from the GPHC late last week, the woman continues to be a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
Police, meanwhile, are continuing their search for the assailant, who is currently on the run and is believed to have fled to French Guiana, where he frequents.
Within hours of his having committed the criminal act, the man’s family members quickly vacated the area with all their belongings, leaving the relatives of the now hospitalized woman upset.
One of Eadie’s relatives told this publication last week that the man’s family was able to move out of the area under police escort. The man said three men arrived at the house on the afternoon of the incident, and facilitated the process. Two of the men were armed with firearms and had no reservations in brandishing their weapons while they packed household items into a canter truck.
Asking to remain unnamed, the relative said the police were very aware of the assailant’s family’s intention to move out, as they were right on the scene. The man also explained that after the canter had left with the items, another police vehicle showed up in the area, and when they got wind of what had transpired, they acted as if they were very surprised.
The relative said the matter was reported to the Ruimveldt Police Station, where the officer in charge of crime promised to look into the matter; which he himself said was not normal, and if found to be factual, the ranks who facilitated the removal process would have some questions to answer.
When this publication telephoned Crime Chief Seelall Persaud yesterday to enquire whether the Guyana Police Force would issue a wanted bulletin for the assailant, he was not willing to speak. Like every other call placed to his phone in matters relating to his department, he rudely disconnected his mobile phone and continued to be uncooperative with the Guyana Chronicle publication.
At Mc Doom last week, relatives of the assailant attempted to capitalise on the fact that residents were not willing to give the police any account of what had transpired, and the family of the two injured were all at the hospital. In their attempt to mislead investigators, the reputed wife of the assailant told police officers that her husband was not the shooter. She told investigators that it was Abiola’s son Martin who actually was in possession of the firearm, and that during the argument he whipped it out with intention to shoot the assailant (Jessie), and ended up shooting his mother in the process.
The reputed wife could not explain to the police how Martin, being the shooter, was shot in the chest; and why her husband was the one now in hiding. Her lies caused the police to whisk her away to the Ruimveldt Police Station for further questioning.
