After months of investigation…

Man charged with last year’s taxi driver murder
STEPHEN Campbell, of Lot 5, Number 7 Village, West Coast Berbice, has been charged with last year’s murder of a taxi driver.
The accused appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday and was remanded to prison.
The indictable charge said Campbell committed the offence between June 9 and 10, 2011, at Number 7 Village, when he killed Trevor Kissoon.
Police Sergeant Philip Sheriff, prosecuting, said the victim was attached to Triple ‘S’ Taxi Service and, on June 9, following a call to the base, Kissoon went to pick up the person who had requested a taxi.
The prosecutor said, after Kissoon failed to return, several attempts were made to contact him on his radio set and cell phone but to no avail.
However, some time the following day, his body was discovered in the village near a trench with multiple injuries to his head, as well.
According to the prosecutor, it was after months of investigation that the prisoner was arrested.
The case was transferred to New Amsterdam Court for July 3.
