Guinness Caribbean Street Football Challenge

Team Guyana impress on opening night
TEAM GUYANA put forth an impressive performance on the opening night of the inaugural Guinness Caribbean Street Football Challenge competition last evening at the National Park Tarmac and currently are in the top bracket to claim the ‘Greatest Title’.
Up to press time, a faint crowd witnessed Guyana convincingly defeated Antigua 5–0 in the second showdown of the evening which had St Vincent and the Grenadines needling St Lucia in the opening match.
Guyana’s pace, skill and application proved too much of a force to reckon with against an unfit Antigua side that was down by three goals in the first half before the victory was put beyond doubt in the second half.
Doubles from Daniel Favorite (5th, 14th) and Bertie Pedro (8th, 19th) along a Vincent Thomas goal (10th) sealed the deal for Guyana.
In the opening match, St Vincent recorded a goal as early as the fifth minute compliments of Juma Jilkes. No other goal was scored in the match which saw the two teams display more eagerness to defend than to attack.
St Lucia’s Kevin Edwards played an instrumental role for his side but had no support, thus making most of his efforts futile. The night wrapped up with Trinidad and Tobago taking on St Lucia, Antigua opposing St Vincent and Guyana looking for their second win when they face T&T in the final encounter of the night.
Tonight the action kicks off at 19:00hrs once again with another five matches while the final is billed for tomorrow night, where Jamaican Reggae artist Bugle is expected to perform live during the break.
