FOUR more teams, namely Tucville Secondary, Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC), West Demerara Secondary and Guyana Educational Trust (GET) advanced to the next round of this year’s Digicel nationwide Inter-secondary school competition, following contrasting victories yesterday. At the Tucville ground, Tucville Secondary on the back of double strikes from Derwin Fitter (20th, 32nd) and Kevin Andrews (42nd, 60th), backed by solitary strikes from Stephen Enoe (12th) and Colin Waterman (47th) defeated Christ Church Secondary 6-1, with Travis Fitzpatrick scoring his team’s lone goal in the 50th minute.
At the Georgetown Football Club ground, GET came from a goal down after Kristoss Sauns scored St Joseph High’s penalty kick in the 34th minute to send the Woolford Avenue-based school packing from the tournament, with a 4-1 win, thanks to goals from Joshua Williams (74th, 80th) and Joshua Britton (50th, 70th).
Across at the West Demerara ground, West Demerara Secondary were held to a 2-2 draw by Leonora Technical Institute, before they came out victorious via a 5-4 scoreline after penalty shootout.
Akeem Hector (18th) and Selwyn Sinclair (71st) scored for West Demerara Secondary, while Andre and Andrew Anthony were responsible for Leonora Technical Institute’s goals, doing so in the 56th and 67th minutes respectively.
At the Carifesta Sports Complex ground, penalty kicks were also used to decide the winner between GITC and Kingston Secondary, following a 1-1 regulation time stalemate.
Simon Emmanuel found the back of the net for GITC in the 26th minute, before Kelvius Joseph scored the equaliser for Kingston Secondary 13 minutes later, but in the end, it was GITC who prevailed 4-3 on penalty kicks to advance to the second round.
The action will continue today with several matches across the country.
