POLICE Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said, yesterday, that, following the execution-style murder of Mohamed Shalahudeen Bacchus Baksh on Friday night, one arrested suspect is still in custody. He said several other persons were also held and questioned but released.
Persaud said detectives are following some leads and the investigations remain active.
A post mortem was performed on the dead city businessman last Monday and it revealed that he died as a result of gunshot wounds to the head.
Baksh, 42, of Lot 9 Pouderoyen and Bel Air Gardens, Georgetown, proprietor of Pest Control Plus, was buried after he was accorded Muslim rites at Versailles Cemetery following the viewing and Janaaza at Versailles Masjid Compound, also at West Bank Demerara, on Monday, as well.
Police reported that he succumbed at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) on Saturday after he was repeatedly shot in the head at close range by one of two gunmen.
The shooter entered the restaurant and bar, where Baksh was socialising with friends in Thomas Street, Georgetown, about 22:00 hrs.
No clear motive has since been established for the killing but Baksh had previously survived a shooting attempt on his life in 2008, on Lamaha Street, in the city, too.
