Jaguars seek revenge on Bermudans

THIS Saturday is judgment day when a focused Golden Jaguars Rugby side will be hosted by Bermuda in the final of the NACRA 2015 RWC 15s regional qualifier. Guyana are fresh off a convincing 20-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago just two weeks ago and seek revenge for the defeat they suffered at the hands of the Bermudans who booked their place in the final by defeating Bahamas 16-8, in last year’s Caribbean Championship.
Yesterday in a media briefing at the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) with player/coach Theodore Henry and captain Ryan Gonsalves, the two senior players stated that they are ready to devour their prey.
Henry said, “We faced Bermuda last year in the finals of the Caribbean Championship and we lost but this year it’s going to be a different result all together because we are definitely going to Bermuda for the victory”.
This year’s tournament has more importance compared to last year’s because it is not only the Caribbean championship on the line but also World Cup qualifier spot – the second leg where they will oppose teams from CONSUR B. CONSUR B including Colombia, Peru, Venezuela and Costa Rica.
Gonsalves disclosed the keys to success on Saturday when he said: “The Bermudans are a very technical team at 15s, we beat them in 2008 by playing a loose game; we don’t want to play a tight game because that’s their strength. We will be looking to utilise our speed on the outside and penetrate whenever the gap opens. We will play to our best and hopefully come out with the victory”.
Like two weeks ago, Gonsalves and his team mates are confident ahead of the game on Saturday and stated that the national 15s rugby team will be looking to exact revenge on the Bermudans who defeated Guyana last year at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, in the final of the NACRA 15s championships.
Henry echoed Gonsalves’ sentiments and said most of the players who are currently on the team experienced last year’s defeat and are eager to wipe the bitter taste from their mouths.
Kick-off time is 14:00hrs and the game will be streamed live on www.ustream.tv/channel/Bermuda-sports-network.

Gonsalves will lead the team of the following ruggers: Jason Tyrell, Rondell McArthur, Troy Arjune, Allain Crawford, Delroy Gordon, Cloyd Prowell, Vallon Adams, Walter George, Avery Corbin, Dwayne Schroeder, Dillon Downer, Richard Staglon, Christopher Singh, Rickford Cummings, Henry, Peabo Hamilton, Elwin Chase, Claudius Butts, Claude Alexander, Ronald Mayers and Ryan Hinckson.
The reserves are Cyon Kitt and O’Neill Charles Daniels while Shane Grant-Stuart will take up the coach’s duties and Ariane Mangar will be the team’s physiotherapist.
