Baksh honoured for dedicated service to Region 2
SCORES of People’s Progressive Party (PPP) members on the Essequibo Coast have expressed thanks to the former Chairman, Mr. Alli Baksh, for developing Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) over the past 19 years. Referring to him as the ‘Father of Essequibo County’, the now Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture was honoured, last Saturday, at a special Father’s Day service in Freedom House, Anna Regina.
Top functionaries of the Essequibo Regional Committee lauded Baksh for his long and dedicated service to the PPP and the development that has taken place in the region under his chairmanship.
Baksh, who was accompanied by his wife, Patsy, children, sons-in-law and grandchildren, was garlanded with flowers by party comrades to show their love and appreciation of his dedication to all citizens of Essequibo.
Party members said Baksh, who served in that capacity for some 19 years is the longest serving Regional Chairman in the entire country.
His wife was also thanked for the support she has given her husband over the years that has led to much development in the Region and his elevation to the position of Minister.
Regional Vice-Chairman, Mr. Vishnu Samaroo, who worked alongside Baksh for several years, agreed that Alli Baksh has transformed Region 2 during his years as Chairman.
Samaroo said citizens of the Region are proud that Baksh is elevated to Minister within the Agriculture Ministry and is confident the latter will do an excellent job as Minister, because he did really well to put the agriculture sector on its feet in Region 2.

Current Chairman of Region 2, Mr. Parmanand Persaud concurred that Baksh performed with distinction as Chairman when he held the post and kept party comrades together.
According to Persaud, Baksh played a father role among party comrades.
Other speakers, who thanked the Minister for his role in the development process of Essequibo, included councillors of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Ms. Wazeeda Bacchus, Mr. Brian Basil Persaud, Mr. Rudolph Williams, Mr. Pooran Persaud and Mayor of Anna Regina, Mr. Sammy Rampersaud.
Head of the Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO) in Essequibo, Ms. Juliet Coonjah and Ms. Nadia Seeram joined in thanking Baksh for his service.
Members of the WPO and the Progressive Youth Organisation (PYO), youth arm of the PPP, presented gifts to Baksh as tokens of appreciation for what he has done over the years.
Responding, Baksh said all he has achieved over those years was due to the PPP and party comrades and he expressed his thanks to them for supporting him.
