… Technical and other support promised
THE Guyana Football Federation (GFF) in association with the non-profit organisation Food For the Poor (FFP) Inc., in an effort to better serve the hinterland areas, donated 25 footballs to the community of Baramita, Northwest District, Region One (Barima/Waini). Facilitating the process was Consolidated Northwest Resources Inc. (CNRI), which is investing over G$20M to empower the community of Baramita, along with the construction of a Sports Facility which will include a football field and pavilion.
In handing over the balls to the Village Toshao Bradley Thomas, acting president of the GFF, Franklin Wilson, said the Federation and FFP recently started a partnership that will see the two entities work together to advance the development of the sport in the hinterland areas and they were both grateful to CNRI for the lead role the company has undertaken along a similar path from an infrastructure standpoint.
“The GFF will ensure that we lend you continuous support; we will assist you in the areas of coaching and refereeing to ensure that players learn the fundamentals of the sport and in time are able to compete for places at the national level – both male and female.”
Also present at Saturday’s presentation was Chief Education Officer Olato Sam and CNRI Chief Financial Officer Fedor Stansky. Bradley thanked the GFF, FFP and CNRI for the support which he said will take sports in the village to another level.
Volleyballs, volleyball net, cricket bats and balls were also handed over to the village and in his brief remarks Stovsky noted that his company was there to partner with the village to ensure that their needs, outside the work environment, were taken care of.
He referred to education and sports which were vital tools to empower any community, society and country and also informed that CNRI has already adopted the Baramita Primary School.
Computers have also been donated to the Village Office. The company will construct a potable water well, provide satellite internet, run sewing classes for the empowerment of women in the village, construct three new schools and offer medical assistance through provision of medical supplies.
CNRI has undertaken to complete all these projects by the first quarter of 2014 with some projected to be done by the end of this year. Massive sports activities are being planned for Amerindian Heritage Month this year and it is expected that the sports facility will be used for these activities towards the end of September.
