‘Candyman’ looking to humiliate ‘Sixhead’

REIGNING World Boxing Council/ Caribbean Boxing Federation (WBC/CABOFE) welterweight champion Simeon ‘Candyman’ Hardy said he will be looking to humiliate former World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis, when the two meet at a venue to be named on Saturday August 18 in a non-title bout. Speaking with Chronicle Sport, the 25-year-old Hardy whose record reads 9-0 (7 KOs) in comparison to Lewis’ 23-4-2, said he believes Lewis needs to be taught a lesson, since he did not return the blessings of the nation that were bestowed on him, when he won the country’s first world title.
“This here would be one of the more anticipated fights I have ever had. I have been looking forward to this one for a long time and the reason for that is he has been going from since the embryo stages of my career, saying lots of things about and to me.
“He even said at one time that I am not the future of Guyana’s boxing, among other things and to date, every fighter whom I have faced from the gym named after him, I have knocked them out and he won’t be any different,” said Hardy.
He added, “The gym was named after him, when he won Guyana’s first world title and I think he would be coming to represent them all, but at the same time, it will be his turn to get knocked out as I will be unleashing the chin check punch in full force that night.”

Hardy said he is looking to have Lewis’ gym mates and even sparring partners shower him with respect, by even identifying him as the man who knocked out the entire gym, one by one, while he expressed delight when called to take on Lewis.
“I know in my mind, that this bout is something that was brewing and once that is so, is only a matter of time before it becomes a reality. I know the time would have reached and I was not surprised, but happy, because finally I get a chance to meet with him and he too has an opportunity to prove whether or not I am ready or not,” said Hardy.
Hardy said he is looking at a possible fight against ‘Vicious’ Vivian Harris after he disposes of Lewis, as he intensifies his preparation for the WBC Championship, which he says was pushed back until sometime next year.
“In life, there are always obstacles that one has to overcome, if he intends to reach the pinnacle of his sport and for me, I am training on a daily basis, whether it is for a title fight or even a non-title fight and when Andrew steps into the ring, I plan to unleash the wrath of the ‘chin check’ on him.”
When contacted for a comment, Lewis declined, but said his handlers are ironing out the details of the fight and all he can do is wait for the ring date.
