Man allegedly drunk for two days fined for driving under the influence

A young man still apparently intoxicated after two days appeared before Vigilance Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin on Tuesday to answer a charge that he was driving under the influence two days earlier. Much to the court’s amusement, a jovial Vijai Singh maintained a seemingly intoxicated appearance as the magistrate read him the charge. He stood smiling continuously while showing a shaking motion consistent with someone mildly intoxicated.
Questioned about his strange rock-steady motion, the man explained that he was probably still drunk from the previous day’s indulgence, since he had been imbibing heavily.
Asked how he pleaded to the charge, the jovial fellow simply said “guilty”; whereupon he was fined $7,500 or an alternative of one month’s imprisonment.
