SHAMEER Abdool, 23, of Lima Sands Housing Scheme, on Essequibo Coast, suffered severe injuries to his head and other parts of the body after he was attacked and beaten by a gang of intoxicated men Tuesday afternoon. The injured man, who is a farmer, was in the front seat of his uncle’s motor vehicle and the attack was launched when they stopped in front of a shop in the village to buy phone cards.
Abdool remained seated as his uncle went to make the purchase and it was then he saw three men, unknown to him, approaching the vehicle.
He said the men started to curse and lashed the window near him with a piece of wood, as his uncle returned and tried to drive away. But the men grabbed and dragged him out, kicking and cuffing him about the body.
Abdool said he was helpless and one of the men hit him in the head with a bottle, causing a deep cut which bled profusely as he made his escapes from the drunken strangers.
He said a report was made to police but his family is still trying to understand why he was beaten in such a cruel manner by the men who disappeared afterwards.
