FOLLOWING the Guyana National Rugby team’s convincing victory over Trinidad and Tobago last Saturday at the Guyana National Stadium, a congratulatory message was sent to the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS). Guyana crushed T&T 20–0 in the South Caribbean final of the Rugby World Cup qualifiers.
The message read: “The games aptly epitomised what a sense of mission and determination, combined with skills, strategy and training could accomplish.
The Guyanese know that Saturday’s game was a must-win proposition, with failure never being an option.”
It went on to say: “That they dominated nearly every aspect of the game was testimony to the results of full fitness, utilisation of experience which then resulted in tries and penalties galore.”
The Ministry is pleased and satisfied to have played its supportive role in the recent past and perhaps even this victory is proof of what public private enterprise could achieve.
Meanwhile, Guyana will face the winner of the North Caribbean final, which will take place on June 9 between Bermuda and Cayman Islands.
