PLEASE permit me a space in your letters column to share my views on an article posted on the Skeldon Conversation Group taken from Kaieteur News, May 30, 2012 titled: “Corriverton Mayor, councillors ‘chased out’ of position, IMC installed.” Mr. Editor I was furious but on a second thought had a good hearty laugh. Here the former Mayor of Corriverton is insisting that he is still the Mayor of the town after his council was dissolved and replaced with an IMC.
Mr. Editor, if you know this individual and his obsession with the title ‘Mayor’ one would expect nothing short of the sentiment he expressed.
But on a more cautious note he uttered some very disrespectful and damaging statements which have no basis. It was no secret that the council was going to be dissolved; in fact, we in Corriverton were tired of only hearing about this, and thought that this would never materialise. Thankfully the IMC is finally here.
Mr. Baijnauth has to understand that nothing stays the same forever. As a resident of Corriverton I can list countless shortcomings of the council and reasons why the IMC, given the present Local Government Reform Constitution dilemma, is the best move for Corriverton. I would not venture in to the failures of the council at this time; maybe in a subsequent correspondence if the need arises.
Mr. Editor, from Mr. Baijnauth’s sentiments I gather he has a grouse with the PPP. This confirms suspicions that this man was not supporting the PPP while he occupied the office entrusted to him by them. This was a turning revelation. It answers many questions about his attitude and work. I gather the PPP was being sabotaged by Baijnauth, and unfortunately the residents of Corriverton felt the brunt of it. One begs the question, how many of these we may have across Guyana.
Mr. Editor to call officials and membership of the PPP including the President of Guyana by derogatory names (when it is him that resembles those names) reveals his unworthiness. Cheddi Jagan would not have waited 18 years; he would have chased him out a long time back. (In Baijnauth’s language).
Best wishes to the IMC, I call on all residents to support them in making Corriverton a model town in Guyana.
Corriverton Town Council should have been dissolved a long time ago
