Team Guyana to have warm-up tournament

AS PART of their preparation to successfully contest the upcoming Guinness Caribbean Street Football Challenge, Back Circle/Team Guyana, led by Daniel Favorite will be engaged in a series of exhibition matches, for which $200 000 is at stake for the winner. The eight-team tournament kicks off on Sunday with four matches. The teams are divided into two groups. The top two will advance to the semifinals which will then decide the finalists.
Apart from the top prize, the second-, third- and fourth-placed teams will pocket $100 000, $50 000 and $25 000 respectively while the other four teams will each receive $15 000 with preliminary round matches being played on the Albouystown, East Ruimveldt and Burnham Basketball courts.
The National Cultural Centre tarmac is the venue identified to host the knockout rounds, along with the semifinals and final.
The playing dates with venues in brackets are as follows:

Sunday, May 27 (Albouystown)
Wednesday, May 30 (East Ruimveldt)
Saturday, June 2 (Burnham Court)
Tuesday, June 5 (National Cultural Centre)
Friday, June 8 (National Cultural Centre).

The Guinness Caribbean Street Football Challenge is being held from June 20 to 23, at the National Park, with the winners walking away with US$4 000 and a brand new five-a-side multi-purpose facility which will be built by Guinness in the community of the winning team.
The second-, third- and fourth-placed finishers will pocket US$2 000, $1 500 and $1 000 respectively, while all teams will be outfitted in their national colours and a special uniform, compliments of Guinness.
Back Circle/Team Guyana, was selected to represent their country following their win in the second annual Banks DIH-sponsored Guinness ‘Greatest of the Street’ competition, with the beverage giant providing full sponsorship towards their participation in both tournaments.
