GUYANA, will expose a senior, blended with youth, squad in this year’s Parbo Bier Cup, which starts in Paramaribo, Suriname on Wednesday.
The other participating clubs are Vitesse and Suripro of Holland, two professional clubs and a representative lineup from the host Suriname. Guyana has been represented at this tournament twice before and only managed to win two matches in the tournament.
Coach Wayne Dover explained that the squad will be given the exposure again with the blend of some young players and we are looking for good results.
He noted that with the experience of Michael Crandon and Anthony Benfield who previously played club football in Suriname, the exposure will give the others a chance to showcase themselves as a team.
This is a good opportunity for all the players in this squad mostly the Under 23 and 20 players since they will have the opportunity of playing against two professional clubs from Holland and the Suriname squad which is expected to come at full load.
Dover noted that this opportunity will prepare them for the upcoming CFU qualifiers giving them match practice against firm teams and competition is expected to be high.
The team left overland this morning and is expected to return next Monday.
Guyana twenty man touring squad includes Anthony Benfield and Michael Crandon who previously played for Transvaal SV in Paramaribo. Andrew Durant, Colin Edward, Denvor Dennis, Chris Camacho, Ryan Crandon, William Europe, Travis Grant, Calvin Shepherd, Josiah Brown, Gideon Payne, Marvin Joseph, Quacy Adams, Eon Alleyne, Philbert Moffat and Daniel Wilson.
The Technical Staff will be headed by Wayne Dover with assistance from Joseph Wilson, Brian Joseph and Andrew Hazel. Lawrence Griffith will do duties as manager.
Parbo Bier tournament squad leaves today for Paramaribo.
