THE Government of Guyana is spending some $34M to construct an all-weather market tarmac and public washroom facilities at the Waterfront at Kumaka, Moruca in Region 1 (Barima/Waini).
Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Alli Baksh, who visited Moruca last Saturday, inspected construction work on the tarmac and washroom facilities. Minister Baksh said Moruca has developed tremendously over the past years under the PPP/C government, and the market has expanded because more persons are involved in business.
According to Minister Baksh, on market days, Saturdays, the entire waterfront is taken over by vendors and shoppers, creating severe congestion; and government, seeing the need for a market tarmac, responded promptly to the needs of residents.
Work is currently progressing well. Project contractor Mr. Sattaur Mohammed said the project is expected to be completed in three months’ time.
