POPULAR entertainers Adrian Dutchin and Jumo Primo have explained why they switched to the ‘Blue Network’ of Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T). Speaking at a press conference in the GT&T Brickdam, Georgetown headquarters, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Yog Mahadeo said the utility “welcomes home” the duo.
He said the decision to accept the former Digicel sponsored artistes was largely to make available, to the young men, a platform to make use of their talent.
In his remarks, Dutchin said the move on his part could be seen as him, finally, realising that it is time to support and represent his own.
He said the reason he stayed at Digicel for the past seven years was due to a “sweet scratch” but, being on the outside and looking in on the operations of GT&T, he realised that the latter was doing an awful lot of work for the local talents of Guyanese through the performing arts.
Free agents
Asked about any contractual arrangements with Digicel, Dutchin said both he and Primo are free agents and, although there was a contract on the table to be signed, they opted to move on with their careers, switching to a network that would see them activating their talents to the maximum.
In relation to the perception that it was hard to get both of them to perform together on stage whenever the company needed them, Primo responded that when they joined Digicel it was aware that they are artistes and would, usually, tour. Consequently, getting them together all the time would not have been possible.
He added that there is nothing much going on at Digicel and he and his partner could really market themselves, as they have been doing for the past three years.
Elaborating on the change, Primo expressed gratitude to Digicel for being their employer for the past seven years but said everyone has dreams and needs to grow in what they do. He said the growth that he and his partner are looking for lies with joining GT&T and that was one of the main reasons behind their switching.
Primo maintained that he and Dutchin are entertainers and, as there is more to what they can do, this is what they hope to do.
Jovial conversations
Kerwin Bollers of the Hits and Jams Entertainment Company, who was with the artistes, said while he had been in jovial conversations with them about joining the ‘Blue Network’, those discussions took a more serious tone after he got wind of a few things in relation to the duo and their business with the other network.
Consequently, he opted to speak with them, seriously, about changing their allegiance.
Bollers said, when he approached the two young men, they indicated that they were in the process of making such a change and, Mahadeo having been informed about their decision, talks were, immediately, started with the local singers, resulting in the changeover.
With the ‘Switch It upp’ promotion, GT&T is offering anyone who joins its network three months of free service and data. It added: “With the coming home of Adrian and Jumo, Guyanese can brace themselves for even more excitement coming for the Blue Network.”
The company also reminded that it is now facilitating ‘Apple’ and persons can purchase the micro-chips and access the services and features on the gizmos and gadgets which are also offered by GT&T.
