A FAMILY from East Canefield in Canje, Berbice is scared for their life after they were issued death threats if the matter was reported to the media. Farida Chargdin, the 47-year-old housewife, of Lot 983 East Canefield, was at home with five children who were in the living-room watching television, while she was in a bedroom, when three bandits entered the building through a southern door which was left open and held the children at gun point.
While one of the robbers remained with the children, the other two proceeded to one of the bedrooms where they held their victim at gun point, demanding money and jewellery.
The scared woman, thereafter, handed over $120,000 in cash, a quantity of gold jewellery totaling $400,000, four cellular phones totaling $110,000 and a Sony Video Camera value $130,000.
The bandits then ordered the mother and the children to lie face down on the floor, during which one of the bandits cuffed and kicked the children about their bodies prior to escaping on foot.
The children were treated and sent away after seeking medical attention at the New Amsterdam hospital, after they had complained of feeling pains about their bodies.
The matter is being investigated by the police.
