AFC squabble highlights classic culture of hypocrisy

THE current party squabble within the Alliance For Change (AFC), that alleges corruption and other charges against Dr Ramayya, Member of Parliament, highlights the classic culture of hypocrisy, a known pitfall of so many politicians. But should such criticism be levelled against such a party that has taken the moral high ground in consistently  labelling the current PPP/C Administration of similar charges,  particularly so in this current dispensation, that has seen it  jointly supporting cuts in the  national budget, because  of such perceptions of the government?
Well, it is true, this report against leading member Ramayya, since it  has been publicised by another party colleague, Region 6 Democratic Councillor , Haseef Yusuf.
I will always contend that politics must only be for very serious, genuine people, that is, persons taking this pathway, who become involved purely for wanting to contribute to the good of their communities, hence their country in the process; and where they give without wanting to receive. It is a vocation where many who became involved, have made enormous sacrifices in terms of their personal time and resources, without ever grumbling or complaining about the enormous challenges they would have faced in their daily hustings.
Unfortunately, none of these encomiums could be said of Ramayya, if one is to be guided by Yusuf’s complaints, chief of which is that the former has been fundraising in Region 6, forcing the membership to repay over  $4M which he said  he had spent on the AFC’s election campaign in the region.
One’s understanding of giving to party funding is that it is towards  the cause, without  expecting  to recoup same. It is not a loan either. So what kind of politician would practise such an unethical behaviour. The answer is simple: mean and selfish, one who is only there for what  he/she can  benefit personally, as well as  being also potentially crooked.
How can such a being as Dr. Ramayya, who trumpeted so much during his electoral campaign about transparency, and being above board in governance, be allowed the unsavoury practice of demanding his funds back?  Is this what the AFC is all about? Office seekers, rather than patriots; grabbers, rather than genuine givers; workers, rather than opportunists? All these latter descriptions surely do belong to Ramayya.
The fact that his fellow party member, Yusuf, has had to refer to the many mastheads of his party, during the last poll campaign, calling for transparency and accountability, but that the movement is instead doing the opposite, explains the great contradictions that now are in train within. The poignant factor in the entire sordid affair, as emphasised by this forthright and honest councillor, is that he does not have any faith in his party leader making a fair judgment.
What a perception of a party leader – one who has led the nation to perceive that he is above board, sitting on the side of all fairness and good judgment!
