Corentyne man committed for High Court forgery trial

WILLIAMSBURG Village, Corentyne resident Ganesh Baldeo, who, allegedly conspired with other persons to forge the date on a Guyana Police Force (GPF) immigration entry stamp in his Republic of  Guyana passport, has been committed to stand trial at the next sitting of Berbice Assizes, for forgery. Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, signed the committal order at New Amsterdam Court, on Tuesday, having ruled that a prima facie case was made out against the accused.
Police Inspector Jairam Ramlakhan, prosecuting, had led evidence from several witnesses who testified that, on February 19, Baldeo was an outgoing passenger on a Caribbean Airlines flight to  Trinidad and Tobago.
But Immigration Officer Dameon Bynoe, on checking Baldeo’s travel document, observed that the last entry stamp date was written over to read April 25, 2008. The border crossing system was then checked and it was discovered that the passenger had entered Guyana, on January 25, 2011, instead.
Baldeo had, initially, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in Georgetown, who put him on $100,000 bail and transferred the case to New Amsterdam.
