Three arrested after city raids, Berbice drug bust

POLICE raided two houses in Georgetown on Wednesday and arrested two men after confiscating a number of cell phones, chargers, a laptop computer, wrist watches and a camera.
A press release said searches were conducted in two buildings on Charlotte Street and Norton Street, respectively, both in the city. The release said, during the raids, 83 cell phones, 21 wrist watches, 60 cell phone chargers, 30 cell phone earpieces, one digital camera, three MP3 players and one laptop computer, along with various computer accessories and other electrical equipment that are suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained, were found.
The men held are still in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Meanwhile, in a separate exercise, police detained a man in Berbice after they stopped and searched a mini-bus and found a quantity of cannabis sativa (marijuana) in it on Wednesday.
That happened about 12:30 hrs at Moleson Creek, Corentyne, where they seized 12.75 kilogrammes of the narcotic and arrested a man, who is expected to be charged shortly.
