Round Six of Caribbean Container FIDE Rating Chess tourney starts today

… David Khan on top with five wins
THE Caribbean Container INC.(CCI) FIDE rating tournament for junior chess players continues today at the Ocean Spray Hotel with both junior and senior players meeting for the sixth round in the nine-round competition.
The sixth round pairings tomorrow are: David Khan versus Taffin Khan, Haifeng Su versus Anthony Drayton, Cecil Cox versus Ron Motilall, Ryan Singh versus Kana Khan and Shiv Nandalall versus Sham Khan.
The six junior players are up against four FIDE-rated seniors to obtain ratings. The World Chess Federation (FIDE) will grant the ratings based on the younger players’ performance in the tournament.
Earlier, veteran player David Khan (FIDE-rating 1386) surged into the lead with five consecutive wins. His dominance would be challenged over the chessboard tomorrow when he meets his son, National Senior Champion Taffin Khan.
National Junior Champion Haifeng Su demonstrated grit by avoiding losses to Taffin Khan (1809) and senior player Shiv Nandalall (1715) during last weekend’s encounters as he drew his matches with both seniors.
The points standings after five rounds are: David Khan 5 points, Taffin Khan 4 ½, Cecil Cox 4, Anthony Drayton 3½, Shiv Nandalall 3, Haifeng Su 2 while the four other remaining players are all on one point or less.
Meanwhile, the seventh round would be played at the Ocean Spray Hotel on Saturday, May 12, and the remaining two rounds to conclude the event are scheduled for Sunday May 20 at Olympic House.
