SHERWIN Clarke, 22, of Lot 162 Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, has been charged with defrauding a woman Police Corporal. He appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday, facing the indictable charge that said, last April 23, at Kitty Police Station, in Georgetown, with intent to defraud, he obtained a ‘Blackberry Curve’ valued $60,000, from Corporal Sharon Logan, by falsely pretending that he was sent, by the owner Shabana Sears, to collect it.
Police Sergeant Tracymay Gittens, prosecuting, did not object to bail for Clarke but asked that the sum be substantial, pointing out that it is fraud, because the accused had uplifted the instrument without the knowledge of its owner.
The magistrate enquired of the prosecutor, if she requested substantial surety only because a policewoman is involved.
Clarke was put on $65,000 bail and sent to another court for a trial commencement date.
