Disagreement over watch price causes man to lose two teeth
KAREEM Lovell was ordered to post $35,000 bail yesterday, when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on Anthon Tracey. The indictable charge said the accused, 25, of Lot 258 David Street, Kitty, Georgetown, committed the unlawful and malicious offence on May 5.
Defence counsel Melvin Duke made a successful application for pre-trial freedom and Police Sergeant Tracymay Gittens, prosecuting, offered no objection.
The lawyer said Lovell is an electrician who does wiring of buildings as part of his work and had an arrangement with Tracey surrounding the purchase of a watch.
Lovell gave Tracey $4,000 but, subsequently, the latter asked for more than the agreed sum and, when Lovell said he wanted back what he had paid before, the two became involved in a scuffle, the lawyer said.
Magistrate Octive-Hamilton demanded to see a copy of the medical certificate issued to Tracey and, after observing that it said the virtual complainant suffered multiple injuries, including the loss of two teeth and swollen gum, she transferred the case to another court for a trial fixture.
