THE two criminal courts at the Demerara Assizes will remain idle until next Monday.
This was announced on Wednesday by officials, following two incidents that affected the courts. In one instance, a defence counsel representing two accused in the‘Ogle3-man murder trial’ had gone to the interior to carry out duties which would keep him away until Monday, while a member of the jury in the Devon Paul murder fell ill and had to be hospitalised for surgery.
The juror is expected to be able to sit from Monday.
Justice Roxanne George is presiding at the Ogle 3-man murder trial where accused Annandram Dhar Amraj, called ‘Alvin Duck Beek’; Naresh Boodhoo, called ’Allu’; and Hemraj Boodwah, called ‘Tilly’’ are on trial.
They are accused with having, on February 11, 2006, in the county of Demerara, murdered Seeragie, called ‘Prowell Seerajie’ and ‘Lalita’.
Justice Roxanne George, who is presiding at the trial, is conducting a voir dire.
In the other case, the Devon Paul murder trial, Justice Franklyn Holder is also conducting a voir dire
Miss Konyo Sandiford and and Miss Renita Singh are prosecuting.
In this case, Devon Paul is accused with having, on the 18th day of October, 2005, in the county of Demerara, murdered a person unknown.
Prosecuting are State Counsel Miss Zamilla Ally and Miss Diana Kaulesar.
Lawyers Mrs. Debra Backer and Miss Emily Dodson, are defending.
No sitting of Criminal Court in City until Monday
