WEST Demerara businessman and proprietor of Countryside Agri, Lalta Digamber, was elected to head West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) for the next two years (having served as Competitions Committee Chairman for the past four years) at the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held last Thursday. Former president Anand Sanasie who served for two two-year terms was not eligible for re-election as the WDCA’s constitution, enacted under Sanasie’s tenure stipulates that “no president shall serve for more than two consecutive terms” hence Sanasie was elected to serve as vice-president to Digamber.
The AGM which was held at the Wales Community Centre was attended by a majority of the clubs playing cricket in the West Demerara area but only those members whose annual subscription had been paid were allowed to participate in the Elections.
In his acceptance speech, Digamber informed members that all clubs are obligated to observe the rules and constitution of the WDCA and no delinquency will be tolerated during his tenure, while the members thanked Sanasie for his contribution.
They noted that over the past four years, cricket balls were provided for all WDCA cricket competitions and sponsorship was readily available while the association is in a strong financial position.
The new executive elected to serve the 2012/2014 term of office reads: Lalta Digamber (president), Anand Sanasie (vice-president), Sajwattie Ramrattan (secretary), Krischand Mangal (assistant secretary), Hardeo Oudit (treasurer), Robin Khan (Competitions Committee chairman), Harrinarine Deokenan (PRO) and Sudesh Persaud (Marketing Manager).
The Committee Members are Dhanpaul, Sharan Rameshwar, Omar Hussein, Rohan Lokeshwar, Ramesh Persaud and Navindra Persaud.
