Student murder in Cuba…

Guyana awaiting official report from Cuban authorities
– Minister Westford
NO new development has been reported by the Cuban authorities, with regard to the recent murder of a Guyanese student in that Republic.
The victim is reported to have been killed during an altercation with a colleague last week but, when contacted yesterday, Public Service Minster, Dr. Jennifer Westford said, while investigations are continuing, Guyana still has not received any further information surrounding the killing.
Last Saturday, the Minister had confirmed that the final year male undergraduate, pursuing studies in Cuba through a Guyana Government Scholarship, was murdered in Cuba.
She said, immediately after being informed of the tragedy, her office was trying to ascertain the identity of the suspect who was in the custody of Cuban Police and gather more knowledge surrounding the crime.
However, Westford said, although her ministry has the name of the deceased, it will not be released to the media until official reports have been sent to Guyana by the Cuban authorities.
She also said that, before contacting the parents of the dead person, Guyana is awaiting a detailed report.
Police have commenced investigating the incident and gave the assurance that every effort would be made to ascertain the truth of the matter.
