— irate relatives call for re-arrest of man involved
THERE were mixed emotions yesterday as a group of relatives of missing Devon Gibson accompanied this newspaper to the Kingston jetty in Georgetown to see on the structure markings in cream water paint narrating how the seven-year-old went under the water without surfacing. Visibly upset, relatives explained that when they visited the jetty that morning, there were no such drawings, but when they returned at around midday, they saw what appeared to be a story of how Gibson met his demise.
It is unknown who painted such a picture of the tragic incident involving the boy. He is reported to have plunged into the Demerara River and drowned, but up to press time, his body hadn’t been recovered. His relatives are furious, since they are now of the belief that some sort of foul play or some form of sacrifice was involved in Gibson’s swimming expedition.
They are of the opinion that he was lured to the Kingston jetty on purpose for what they believe are “works of evil” by the family of the man who accompanied the group of six children to the seawall.
Gibson’s relatives said they would be returning in their numbers to the location for a vigil. They are hoping to find his body soon, so they can give him a proper farewell and bring some closure to the incident.
They are also urging the police to re-arrest the man, who was placed on bail, and to interview the children who were rescued, to determine what course of action to take, since they believe that this incident was not natural.
