Responding to drastic budget cuts…

Essequibians express disappointment with Opposition action
SOME Essequibians have said they are very disappointed and angry that the Parliamentary Opposition have, heartlessly, cut the National Budget by billions of dollars.
They said the action will stop development and put hundreds of workers on the breadline and they are standing in solidarity with those at the National Communications Network (NCN) and the Government Information and News Agency (GINA), who will be affected.
Portia Jacobs, who is employed at the Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Administrative Office, said her disappointment is because she believes the Opposition action will only affect the poor man at the bottom and not those at the top.
She said poor people will have to pay more for electricity, all because of the Opposition.
Jacobs said when she saw GINA and NCN staff protesting over their jobs, in front of Parliament, she cried because people have to live.

“They have families and children and have to find food for them every day, loans to repay and now look what has happened. Do we have a concerned, caring Opposition that looks at poor workers?” she asked.
Jacobs said, in solidarity with the affected workers, she is calling on the Opposition to sit with the Government and reconsider what they have done.
Another Regional Administration employee, Melrose Henry said all Amerindians and especially those who supported the Opposition at the last elections are now seeing who they voted for; the heartless people who are stopping development in their communities…stopping the solar panels for Amerindians.
She said she wants all Amerindians to know, now, that it is the Opposition (APNU and AFC) who are responsible for them not getting solar panels.
Henry said the government is giving Amerindians the solar panels so they can have light, television and radio but now it is being stopped by the Opposition.
