THE preliminary inquiry (PI) into the murder charge against the alleged killer of Shewraney Doobay, wife of prominent physician Dr. Ramsundar Doobay, resumed yesterday, with a new witness testifying. Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, who is conducting the pre-trial proceedings, took the evidence from Police Detective Superintendant Marlon Chapman.
Deputy Police Superintendant Fazil Karimbaksh, prosecuting, informed the court that other Detective Superintendant Joel David would be the final deponent for the prosecution.
The prosecutor said David will give further evidence on May 7 and the Defence will have an opportunity to cross-examine Chapman and David.
Defence Counsel Vic Puran was not present yesterday.
Shakir Mohamed, of Lot 127 Latchuni Street, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, is now the lone accused in the dock.
Mark Singh, nephew of the 58-year-old victim, who was also charged with the unlawful killing, has since died in prison, having succumbed to asthma.
The woman was killed on May 24, 2011, at Echilibar Villas, in Campbellville, Georgetown, where her bloodied body was found in the kitchen of her home.
