A MOTORCYCLIST was killed instantly, last evening at around 18:30 hrs, when he allegedly attempted to force his way on motorcycle CG 1314 between a moving lorry, GPP 2547, and a stationary car, PMM 1003, at the junction of Regent and Vlissengen Roads, Bourda, Georgetown. According to eyewitnesses at the scene last evening, the traffic light at that junction had just changed, giving vehicular traffic heading north along Vlissengen Road the go-ahead. One eyewitness explained that the motorcyclist was heading at a very fast rate north along Vlissengen road when he slammed into the back of the truck.
The impact flung the rider onto the motor car, which was stationary at the time. The truck driver was reportedly unaware that the motorcyclist had slammed into the back of his vehicle, and was only cognisant of the fact after persons waiting on the light had signalled him. He pulled over to the shoulder of the road, bringing the truck to a stop in front of the Agriculture Ministry’s Vlissengen Road entrance.
The accident saw several other motorists who had reached the scene by then commenting about the speed with which the late motorcyclist had passed them further north along Vlissengen Road. Others commented on the inferior type of helmet the dead man had been wearing at the time.
At the scene, the helmet, brain matter and parts of the motorcycle littered the road, quickly becoming a spectacle as motorists and pedestrians alike converged to gawp at the lifeless body of the man.
An ambulance arrived on the scene about 15 minutes after the accident, but had to return to the Georgetown Public Hospital after it was established that the accident was a fatality. There was a gaping wound to the man’s head.
Police arriving on the scene searched the man’s pockets and haversack for any clues to his identity, but came up empty handed. Up to press time, the police were still trying to identify the unfortunate motorcyclist.
The lorry the motorcyclist slammed into is registered to one S. Prakash of Greenfield North, East Coast Demerara.
