I DO believe that if the mainstream constituency of both A Party For National Unity (APNU) and an Alliance for Change (AFC) had an inkling that these two parties that they had followed; attended their numerous election meetings; listened and accepted all that were told to them in good faith about national unity, particularly with regards consensual politics, and wanting an improved life for all, would have proposed and supported budgetary cuts – they would not have supported them at the November polls.
I am writing this letter as a Guyanese who is very much stunned, aggrieved, and angry at these two parties’ combined attack on the livelihood of the Guyanese working class, who have been betrayed by a bunch of leaders masquerading as nationalists.
Do they really understand what this word means? As a reminder: It means leaders who love their country, and patriotically put that country and its citizens’ well- being first and foremost.
The fact that both these parties, APNU and AFC, have combined to launch an attack on the working class, that will inevitably result in taking away bread and butter from off the tables of their respective families, is in effect an assault on these workers economic sustenance.
They have families, who are dependents, a fact totally oblivious to Khemraj Ramjattan, whose very tone reeks of hated vengeance and disregard for workers’ welfare.
For all of the AFC leader’s numerous pronouncements that he will not ever join with the main opposition, he has in effect led them in his treacherous act in advocating an action that will earn him and APNU’s Granger, their rightful places in the hallway of local political infamy.
The other fact to note very carefully about these two parties, for all their individual efforts at deception, trying to conceal their efforts at a joint criminal enterprise on the working class of this nation, is that they are really one. The signal would have already been observed, given their earlier perfidy of their greedy grab of the Speaker’s chair.
The great pretence has finally been laid bare. The mask is off, APNU+AFC means a combined attack on the nation’s working class; anti-working class and anti-Guyanese in every way.
Betrayed by a bunch of leaders masquerading as nationalists
