I HAVE been writing since 1973. I have explained to many that my poems are not given to quality. I simply write and do not keep copies. To me these are not important to be stored. It is to me parallel with the child’s game of ‘ball and bat’. The scores are not to be recorded.
I wish to appeal to teachers and others not to use my work in any way. Please understand that the poems I produce lack quality. I know this. I am the producer. These poems, however, from time to time do offer a little, not much.
There are many anthologies of good poems which teachers can use. It is for competent others to say.
Currently, I’m reading some beautiful Guyanese poems published under the title: ‘A Treasury of Guyanese Poetry’ edited by Dr. A.J. Seymour. These poems are rich and I believe a strong reference resource for any interested in beautiful poetry from Guyana.
Why I’m appealing for restriction of utilisation or storage with respect to my pieces is that I have received indication that some believe I am a poet and have been giving my effort too much attention making me feel very demeaned. I have never designated myself a poet or my effort quality poetry. I simply write and until it is a crime to produce poetry, so called, I will continue writing because I just can’t stop.
My pieces currently reach the pages of only the Chronicle and the Mirror.
