Second RBC/Tropical Rhythm pedals off on Sunday

THE second annual Roraima Bikers Club (RBC)-organised Ansa McAl/Tropical Rhythm-sponsored 60-mile cycle road race will pedal off  this Sunday at 08:00hrs, starting in front of the sponsor’s entrance and proceeding to Mahaicony via the Old Road and returning to the place of origin for the finish. However, the Veterans and Mountain Bike Riders will proceed to Mahaica via the Old Road and return through the New Road to finish as above, with the first six finishers in the Open category – Warren ‘40’ McKay is the defending champion – being rewarded handsomely.
According to a press release sent by the club, the first three finishers in the Junior, Mountain Bike and Veteran categories will also receive prizes at the end of the event which has 10 sprint prizes up for grabs during the journey.
Apart from McKay, Paul De Nobrega and Kennard Lovell are the defending champions for the junior and veteran categories respectively, but judging from the performances of several cyclists during the year, a hectic battle can be anticipated for championship honours in the Open category.
Raynauth Jeffrey, Jude Bently, Ian ‘Dumb Boy’ Jackson, Robin Persaud, Alonso Greaves, Enzo Matthews, Albert Philander, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams and Junior Niles, just to name a few, will be among the riders who will be battling for supremacy in the Open category.
For the Veterans, Lovell will have to keep a close eye on Linden Blackman, Virgil Jones, Wilfred Thom and Courtney Hackett, who have all been churning out impressive performances. In view of these happenings, Sunday’s event will be an interesting one for the cycling fraternity.
