INTERMOENGOTAPOE crushed Milerock when action in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship continued at the Guyana National Stadium yesterday. The Surinamese side moved closer to the next round when they demolished the Guyanese side from Linden in an emphatic 7-1 victory. They are now atop the leader board with six points while Alpha United and Hubentut Fortuna follow with three points each and Milerock are still on zero.
In the feature match of the night Alpha United defeated Hubentut Fortuna 3-1 with not much of an impressive performance.
The action continues tomorrow at the same venue when InterMoengotapoe and Hubentut Fortuna square off in the curtain-raiser of the double-header at 16:00hrs then the local team Alpha United and Milerock will battle in the feature, which is also the final match of Group Two, at 18:00 hrs.
A sweet revenge it was for InterMoengotapoe as they led 2-1 at halftime with Stefan Russel drawing first blood as early as the eighth minute then his team mate Jerrel Adensiba doubled the lead when he found the back of the net in the 28th minute.
Milerock were able to pull one back at the stroke of halftime compliments of Jermain Fordyce.
The home side were under immense pressure throughout the encounter as they succumbed to consistent attacks with desperate attempts which added to their burden of trying to keep the Suriname team at bay.
To add insult to injury, InterMoengotape had goals piled on by Claudis Pinas (52nd), Russel (87th) and Clarence Plein (86th). Patrick Jimmy accounted for the other two goals when he was successful in the penalties gifted to them in the 62nd and 76th minutes.
Meanwhile, Alpha jumped back into the race with an important win even though it was a lacklustre showdown. Many easy attempts were thrown away by the local boys that would have been welcomed to spur their goal difference but they seemed not to have the killer instinct.
Andrew Murray Junior opened the scoring for Alpha United in the sixth minute then Anthony Abrams doubled the lead in the 25th minute.
The second half began with Alpha still ahead by two goals but Jose Adriano Chacas Gomes pulled one back in the 60th minute.
However, that did not affect Alpha as they kept attacking and getting easy opportunities but could not capitalise on them. They managed to make it a two-possession game once again in the 85th minute when Daniel Wilson scored – a goal which spelt END for Hubentut Fortuna.
Alpha bounce back as InterMoengotapoe maul Milerock 7-1
