LATCHMI Kumaran of Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, Georgetown was placed before Sparendaam Magistrate Alex Moore Wednesday , charged with using abusive language, wherein it was alleged that on April 13, at Industry, East Coast Demerara, she used abusive language to Vikash Basdeo. In pleading not guilty to the charge, Kumaran gave a very dramatic explanation of the incident.
However, further questioning by Magistrate Moore revealed inconsistencies in the woman’s story.
The court was made to understand that Kumaran’s mother and Basdeo were warring neighbours, who have had a series of fights. Kumaran claimed that Basdeo and his family members have constantly been abusing her 87-year-old mother; and on the day in question, she was at her mother’s residence when Basdeo verbally abused her.
She claimed she did not abuse the man in any way, and he was making false accusations because his family did not get along well with hers.
Kumaran was put on $5,000 bail, and was instructed to return to court on May 4.
