Magistrate insists wounded girlfriend think over ending case

TROY Ishmael, of Lot 654 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was granted $40,000 bail yesterday on a charge of unlawfully wounding his girlfriend, Karen Garrel. Before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, the allegation, against the defendant, to which he pleaded not guilty, was that he wounded the woman on April 13.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant shares an intimate relationship with the defendant and they had an argument, during which he lashed her several times about the body and the incident was reported.
However, Garrel indicated, to the Court, that she does not wish to proceed with the case.
The magistrate then asked her if she needed some time to think prior to ending the matter and Garrel responded in the affirmative.
But, when the magistrate put the defendant on bail and adjourned the case to April 23, Garrel maintained she wants to finish the proceedings right away and the Court insisted that she think about it first and make her request, again, at the next hearing.
